Dr. Huff’s story is being told for the first time, as she requested, in the comprehensive Wall Street Journal article, “Generation Xanax: The Dark Side of America’s Wonder Drug,” by Shalini Ramachandran and Betsy McKay. This is the extent to which her family has chosen to share. Please continue to respect their and our privacy.
We know she would be proud of the coverage and the impact this article will have. We are grateful for the opportunity we had to assist.

I am devastated to learn of Dr Huffs death. She helped me and told me what she knew when I pretty well knew nothing but Akathisia brought on by this S, while my doctors were lying to me straight away and maligning me personally and my medical files. Without her I would not have been able to piece things together to develop an understanding of what had occurred and that my CNS had been injured by these drugs both taking and also stopping taking them without proper understanding of how dangerous both of those prospects are. I am truly devestated for Dr Huff and her family to learn of her passing tonight. I don’t know what else to say my friends but that may God bring peace to her loved ones and friends who should all know that while suffering immensely as a victim of the “medical industrial complex” Dr Huff was no victim but instead a “woman for others” in the finest traditions of Saint Ignatius and indeed of Jesus Christ himself. I am alive today I belive Dr Huff in part at very least,
To your knowledge courage and selflessness.
SUE THEM ALL.THEY KNEW FOR 65+ YEARS.
Look out of any window,
Any morning,any evening,any day
Maybe the sun is shining,
Birds are winging or rain is falling from a heavy sky.
What do you want me to do
To do for you to see you through?
For this is all a dream we dreamed
One afternoon long ago.
Walk out of any doorway
Feel your way, feel your way like the day before
Maybe you’ll find direction
Around some corner where it’s been waiting to meet you
What do you want me to do
To watch for you while you’re sleeping?
Then don’t be surprised when you find me dreaming too
Look into any eyes you find by you
You can see clear through to another day
Maybe it’s been seen before by other eyes
On other days while going home
Walk into splintered sunlight
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land
Maybe you’re tired and broken
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken
And thoughts unclear
What do you want me to do
To do for you to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain
And love will see you through
Just a box of rain, wind and water
Believe it if you need it
If you don’t just pass it on
Sun and shower,wind and rain
In and out the window
Like a moth before a flame
And it’s just a box of rain
I don’t know who put it there
Believe it if you need it
Or leave it if you dare
And it’s just a box of rain
Or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long, long time to be gone
And a short time to be there.

Yes RP, the link works. Thanks for sharing. It did not give much details. All it said was ”
and I quote
“In late 2023, she took a common “beta blocker” drug, which blocks adrenaline, and was besieged by adverse effects, including muscular atrophy and anxiety “bursting from my chest.” She surmised that “prior damage from benzodiazepines came into play.” Last March, she killed herself. Her husband later found a note she had written on her phone.
“If I end up taking my life or dying of natural causes, I consider this to be a murder,” she wrote, blaming damage from prescription drugs. “My body has been completely destroyed. I would never leave my family and beautiful daughter if I had another option.”
Thanks so much. – an article like this should NOT be behind a paywall… too much at stake. Many can benefit from seeing & reading this.
I read an in-depth article on benzos a few years ago in the NYT .. I had/have a subscription, however they allow me 10 ‘gift’ articles a month to share which is helpful .
Thx for this, whatever you did 😉
This is very disappointing! I am 100% behind the family taking all the time they need as per Dr. Huff’s wishes. I even was understanding if they kept her end journey private – however in sharing the story a year after her transition I question having it shared in The Wall Street Journal where there is a strict paywall. Unless one opens a membership, can’t read the article. Most people will not take the steps to do this.
That said, I am 100% behind Dr. Huff, her husband, daughter and entire network of family & friends so I hope this share makes a difference with the medical & benzo user community throughout the world. As a 36 yr. user with a 2 yr. recent successful taper behind me (minimal symptoms compared to many others it seems) I want nothing more then this journey to be accepted, helped, better understood and taken seriously – with compassion.
Steph,
RP posted a link. You can read the article for free.
Thanks Daniel, but I don’t know how that would be.. they even mention somewhere here that it IS behind a paywall. I have since bought a mo. Subscription & copy/pasted / reformatted the article w/ pics so I can share as I see.
Ohh .. I see they have been allowed to have article here for BIC followers to read, it wasn’t the case when I 1st read this – that’s great … we can share the article by way of this page .. 😉
Thx
Stephanie
I’m grateful to hear that tapering can work for some people. It took me 9 months of a liquid taper and it was symptomless. The problem is there aren’t any doctors that will do this. I was fortunate to have a doctor friend that helped me. He has since passed and I have a friend that needs similar help and I can’t find anyone that will help us.
REPORT THEM to your State Medical Board if they refuse to help you. They took an oath, or SHOULD HAVE.
Nancy
If you go to http://benzobuddies.com/ they have a lot of information on how to do a proper liquid taper for experts who have done it successfully. Please check it out for your friend.

Go to a library to find The WSJ article. Most libraries should have it.
