October 23 – October 24, 2026
Norfolk, Virginia
Dr. Bohan recently attended the VASAM conference on behalf of the Benzodiazepine Information Coalition (BIC), sharing information, resources, and opportunities for greater awareness and understanding of benzodiazepines and the challenges associated with deprescribing.

Throughout the conference, Dr. Bohan shared resources including the Ashton Manual, informed consent materials, deprescribing tools, and references on benzodiazepines. He also introduced attendees to the documentary Medicating Normal and the importance of informed prescribing and patient education.
There were encouraging conversations and connections. Several healthcare professionals, particularly nurse practitioners, demonstrated an interest in deprescribing.
There were also opportunities to reconnect with former colleagues, meet physicians working in the area of tapering, and begin conversations about future collaboration and education around benzodiazepines.
Dr. Bohan’s overall impression? It was encouraging to see more healthcare professionals involved in deprescribing than he expected, particularly among nurse practitioners.
Change takes time, and conversations matter. Every opportunity to share information, raise awareness, connect with healthcare professionals, and help improve the understanding of benzodiazepines is a step in the right direction.
We are grateful to Dr. Bohan and everyone who took the time to stop by, learn, share, and engage with BIC at VASAM.
