    Hello;
    I am a 76-year-old male who has been taking 20mg of Valium daily for the past (17) years – for Anxiety. I take it along with 250mg of Depakote daily (for Bi-Polar disorder). I had a 40-year career as a professional Landscape Architect (which is a very complex profession) that requires a lot of detailed knowledge & a great deal of creativity. Even now at the age of 76, I feel as sharp as I was 30 to 40 years ago. I can still design most any type of design project. And I do still take on a few “select” design projects each year…not because I need the income but because I still have a passion for the “creative design process”. I’ve seen a couple of major research studies that have concluded that drugs like “Valium” do NOT cause dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Though, I have seen several studies that say at least 13.3% of elderly people who have taken Valium (long term) develop these diseases. IMO, it seems many Psychiatrists just don’t buy into the NEW research studies…they insist that “Valium” should be used for only “short-term” usage. I have suffered from “Anxiety” since the age of 28 years of age…so for me, taking “Valium” daily allows me to live a “normal” Life…along with the daily dosage of “Depakote”.
